Faith Relationship Obedience Part 2
In our previous blog we talked about Abraham being obedient to God’s direction to go where He called him. We said he was obedient because of faith. Abraham didn’t have blind faith. He had a faith born of relationship with God. What’s the difference?
We are likely to be obedient when there is something in it for us, like a paycheck. We are more likely to be obedient when we care about the one asking us to do something based on the depth of relationship. I’ll do more, be more obedient, for my friends than I will for those who aren’t my friends. Among my friends, I do more for those I’m closest to than I do for those I’m not as close to.
If someone I didn’t know came along and told me to do something for him, I’d be unlikely to do it unless I was compelled in some way.
Abraham was obedient because he had relationship with God, and he believed God would do what He said He would do. Abraham’s obedience wasn’t blind obedience. It was obedience embedded in faith and relationship.
Faith, relationship and obedience are best rooted in relationship with God. Let me encourage you to press in to Him as Paul would say.
'Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. ' Philippians 3:12
Ask the Lord how to grow in Him. Be thankful, worship HIm, and honor and forgive the people in your life.
