The Sacrifice of Giving Thanks

In the last devotional we ended by asking this question:

How do we do sacrifice thank offerings in a day when there is no “act,” such as an animal sacrifice, to perform?

I believe the answer to this question is this:

We sacrifice thank offerings by determining with an active choice of our will to become thankful, even when it seems we should be ungrateful.  We choose.  We decide with purpose to become thankful even in a troubling circumstance.  We determine to order our conversation aright by choosing to speak out loud our thankfulness to the Lord.

As believers we know that one of the things we have chosen to do is to honor God.  As we offer our thanks we honor Him, and he immediately responds by saying He will do something for us in return.

What is it that He will do for us in return?  What is the promise given to us when we act according to the instruction of Psalm 50:23?  It is clear from all three versions.  God will show us His deliverance, His salvation, His prosperity and His victory.

He will show us His salvation.

Are you having trouble figuring out how to be thankful in your circumstance?

Let’s ask the Lord for help right now.

Holy Spirit,

I want to choose to become a thankful person but I need your help.

I ask you to teach me how to be thankful in the middle of this circumstance.

I have decided that as soon as you show me how to be thankful, I will give God thanks.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Thank you.  God bless you - on your journey today!
