Have You Been With Me So Long?

Discussion Questions Continue Today!

These questions are located at the end of Chapter 2 of the book From Here …By Faith.

2. How do you approach Jesus’ question to Philip, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know me, Philip?”

Jesus and His disciples have been together for 3 years. They ate together, walked long distance together, argued and dealt with everything people deal with who live together for extended times. It’s safe to say that Jesus had some basis for thinking that Philip knew Him.

Jesus was beginning to talk to the disciples that He was only going to be with them for a little longer. As He began to tell them this, Thomas said, “Show us the way and we’ll go with you..’ Jesus answered him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” And then Philip pipes up, “Show us the Father…” John 14:5-7 https://www.bible.com/bible/100/JHN.14.5-7

Jesus appears to express a bit of frustration with Philip at this. You can read the rest of the discussion in John 14: 9-15.

Review His statement verse 11. “Believe me (because you know me) or at least (if you can’t do that) believe in the works I have done.”

Here’s one more question. If Jesus suggests to those who know Him that they should at least believe His works, how important is it that you do works like He did?
