Jesus’ Prophecy to You

Jesus’ Prophecy to You

In our last blog we noted that Jesus rebuked Philip in John. 14:11 For not knowing Him.  Philip reacted to one of Jesus' statements by saying, "Show us the Father ..." Jesus replied, saying :"Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.”

When Jesus finishes his response to Philip He concluded by saying, in effect, if you don’t know me well enough to believe me, then at least believe my works. Believe that I am in the Father and He is in me, or ‘At least believe on the evidence of the works themselves, since they came from the Father.’

From here, in this passage, it seems like Jesus takes a breath and begins to speak to a larger audience when He says:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.” John 14:12

Continuing, Jesus says this:

“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name,

I will do it.” John 14:13-14

So, in this passage, Jesus has foretold or spoken into the future to you and me that we will do the works He did and even greater works than His. Another word for foretelling or speaking into the future is prophecy. Isaiah prophesied the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus prophesied that we would do greater works, greater things than He did. And not only that, but Jesus says He will do whatever you ask. This is amazing!

You have the potential to be one of Christ’s fulfillers of prophecy! It’s my hope as we continue this pursuit of faith and asking God questions about it, you will come to have a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him. Looking back at the prophecy spoken by Jesus over 2000 years ago, you might see what He said as an invitation. You are invited into relationship with Jesus such that you can see that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him. You are invited into a relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in which He will do whatever we ask in His name.

We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
