Belonging by Faith
We concluded our last blog with this thought:
When you say you belong in and to Him and to His Kingdom, you are saying you have relationship with Him. So, when you see the terms “belonging” (or its form) or “relationship” (or its forms), you can assume they mean the same thing. Properly ordered, then, you can say without worry, “I belong to Him by faith.” If it’s true that this link is basic to your entry into relationship with Him, it stands to reason that this link will not diminish as you grow in relationship. Rather, the link between faith and relationship appears to work in both directions. In other words, faith is to relationship as relationship is to faith.
In fact, your understanding of relationship and belonging as they relate to faith must, by all your praying and reading and worshipping, grow!
You might say, after praying and reading and worshipping, “My faith has grown!” And indeed, it well may have. So, what should you focus on in your walk, then?
I have come to believe that you and I should focus our efforts on developing a deeper understanding of our relationship with Him. By understanding, I mean something like Paul wrote in Ephesians 3, that you would become rooted and established in love. It won’t be enough to learn what can be known of your relationship with Him with your mind alone. The deeper understanding worth seeking and finding is the understanding that can only be known in your heart.
We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them
