Chosen To Do …Work - Part 2

Let’s continue to look at Jesus’ warning to the Church of Sardis.

Jesus, in Revelation Chapters 2 and 3, is speaking to the seven churches. Among the churches is the church in Sardis.

“To the angel of the church in Sardis write: He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this: ‘I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent…’” Revelation 3:1-3

In Revelation 3, Jesus is giving a serious warning to all of us. His words to the church of Sardis indicate He is keeping track of what we do; your deeds, my deeds are not done yet. The response we are encouraged to take is to “Wake up!” and strengthen the things that remain, which are about to die. Receive His discipline and be earnest and repent.

In other words, it’s time to take this idea that you have work to do to heart. Take what Christ is saying seriously and repent. Repent because even though you may have been ignorant of His charge, you also have not grown in relationship with Him, and therefore, you have not grown in faith. Like many of us, you’re not sure what to do so you don’t do anything. This is a call, a warning from Him to change. To start looking seriously at your walk with Him, accept His invitation to walk more closely with Him, learn how to hear His voice and in hearing, do what He asks you to do!

We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
