Trials and Seeking - Part 1

Retired now, I was a working man, an instructor/trainer for a Fortune 500 company. I was laid off from my job a few years back due to a “resizing” of my department. When I heard the news, I was shocked, angry, disappointed. All the feelings I expect you have had if you’ve been through a similar experience.

After a few weeks, I was on a walk trying to process what had happened. I couldn’t see how it made sense. I was talking to the Lord about it and telling Him in no uncertain terms how I felt. As I was talking to Him, I said, “Look around, Lord. Everything I see is the result of a mathematical formula.” It made sense. The trees, the houses, and the snow all around me as I was walking. The ways the trees grew, the snow fell, and the houses were built. Everything made sense; all of it could be described as some kind of formula.  But what I was going through at that time didn’t make sense to me. And it didn’t feel like any amount of faith I had would change my circumstances.

In the heat of the moment, I said, “Everything in Your creation can be defined by math, by some kind of formula. Except faith. Faith doesn’t appear to work in any kind of formula. But Your Word says many things that indicate all I need is faith to overcome my circumstances.”

We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
