One of These Days…
One of these days, I’ll get to it!
I bought my first house a number of years ago in Minnesota. The homeowner I bought the house from had a nearly new snowblower and I made that snowblower a part of my purchase agreement. It finally stopped working after about 25 years. It’s behind my garage right now because I want to “tinker” with it. It’s been there a year already. It’s still there because I don’t know exactly what to do to take it apart. And I tell myself I don’t have time right now. One day soon, I’ll go and bring it into the garage and start working on it. “It’ll be easy!” I tell myself. But it won’t be. I haven’t done anything mechanical for a very long time. So, I am willing to bet that the job of taking it apart to see what actually happened to it should be about a two-hour job. I’m also sure that I will end up spending about two days or more on that simple job.
Here’s what I’m getting at (I added this to the most recent blog as well). You won’t know the works He has prepared for you to do until you know Him. You won’t know how to do the works He has prepared for you until you know Him. And you won’t have the faith it takes to do the works until you know Him. Don’t be offended by these statements. It isn’t that you don’t know Him at all. Many of you do. It’s that you and I often act on what we hear rather than on what and Who we know. Jesus Himself said He only does what He sees the Father doing.
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” John 5:19
He basically says the same thing in John 14, verse 10:
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.” John 14:10
We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
