Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later?

A quick review of what we’ve talked about over the last few months looks like this:

Prophecy or Proclamation

Jesus said we we would do greater works than He. John 14:12

Confirmation

Paul said good works are prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Exhortation

James said Faith without works is dead. James 2:26

Warning

Jesus told the church of Sardis He knew there works weren’t done. Revelation 3:2

Have you ever paid a penalty for being passive? You had a deadline to do something, and you put it off? It’s happened to me on many occasions.

It reminds me of an old commercial on TV when I was a kid. The commercial was for an oil filter.

The end of the commercial had an older guy who looked like a mechanic holding an oil filter. The tag line was, “You can pay me now, or you can pay me later!” Back in those days, people used to change their own oil, but sometimes, they wouldn’t change the filter. He meant that if you didn’t change the filter at the same time you changed your oil, you could end up regretting it.

Choosing not to change the oil filter when you change the oil is, in a manner, an act of passiveness.

We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
