The Nature of Your Heart

Jesus spoke of our hearts many times when He was on earth.  In Matthew, Mark and Luke he says we should love the Lord our God with all our heart, our soul, our mind and our strength.  The Greek word used in the Gospels for heart is “kardia.”  Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance (G2588) defines kardia as “…the center and seat of spiritual life: the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavors…of the will and character.” Just like you, the nature of my heart is exposed by my reactions to the daily occurrences in my life.  I know how I am reacting to them by listening to what I say in my heart about them.

These occurrences happen at work, with my wife and friends, with my children and, frequently, when I am driving around town in traffic.  Christ’s objective for taking an interest in you and me is to help us form a proper heart.  He wants you and me to evaluate what we are saying in your hearts so that, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can change it.

What are you saying in your heart about your life right now?  What are you saying about your job, your spouse?

What are you saying about God?

As simple as it seems, changing what you say in your heart will help you find your way through the most difficult circumstances.

Thank you.  God bless you - on your journey today!
