Without Truth Love Can’t Be Enough
Without truth, love can’t be enough. We all know someone who can’t get enough love. We could stand beside them 24 hours a day and tell them we love them over and over again and it wouldn’t be enough. They wouldn’t believe it. Because they’ve been hurt and they’ve decided to hold on to that hurt rather than let it go, at best they can only hold on to love for brief moments. They are like pitchers with holes in them. Instead of holding water to be poured out when it is wanted and needed, the pitcher leaks it right out before it can fulfill its purpose and the water can be of use to anyone else.
Jesus talked about truth and its work:
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:31-32).
If what Jesus told the Jews was true 2000 years ago, it is true for us today.
If what Jesus said was true then, and it is true today, then we must establish that we are his disciples if the truth is to set us free. How can we establish that we are his disciples? If we are reading His Word and praying and fellowshipping with other believers we are at least moving in the right direction to become his disciples. The degree to which we are really His disciples is more a function of how well we hold to his teaching. The real measure of this is in what He called the greatest commandment: To love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
What about you? Are you able to tell Christ the truth about yourself? Have you been able to take responsibility for who you have become?
It can be so hard, telling the truth. But if you really want to get there, it’s where you have to start.
Thank you. God bless you - on your journey today!
