We Are Chosen to Belong

I asked my friends what it meant to them to have this sense of belonging. As I listened to the responses, it was those who have stories of adoption that seemed to best convey the idea I want you to understand.

See how Paul talks about our adoption in Ephesians 1:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:3-6

When you chose Christ, the Father chose you. In an incomprehensible way, He chose you as you chose Him. We know He chose us because of what John wrote in 1 John 4:19. We love, because He first loved us. The loving and the choosing go hand in hand.

We have works to do and we’re going to need faith to do them!
