To Tell the Truth

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

Today, let’s focus on the part of this passage that states, “The truth will set you free“  At another time we’ll talk about what it means, “If you hold to my teachings.”

Many of you know this scripture so well, it’s almost like a cliché:  “The truth will set you free.”  Unfortunately, many have failed to grasp the magnitude of this declaration of deliverance.  And many lack the will to pursue that deliverance - telling the truth - to its perfect end.

If you are trying to make your way to Christ, the first step you must take is to tell the truth.  You told the truth when you became a believer.  To continue enjoying this freedom you must continue telling the truth.

If there is a mistake we frequently make in our walk with Christ, it is that we fail to act (by telling the truth about ourselves) because we somehow have the idea that we are passive participants in God’s plan for us.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Even Adam and Eve were active in what the Lord’s will and purpose was for them before the fall.  If anything, after the fall, we are required to be even more active in our walk.

So, take action now! Tell God the truth about yourself. He already knows you and everything you’re going tell Him. He won’t be embarrassed or ashamed. He knows. The fact is, if you’re not telling the truth about yourself, you’re simply choosing to remain in trap or snare. And finding freedom always begins with telling truth.

What do you think the difference is between living a passive Christian walk and an active one?  How does being active in your walk change your relationship with God?

Thank you.  God bless you - on your journey today!
