Your Most Important Relationship: Your Parents

Most of us have had at least one difficult relationship in our lives.  It may have been with our parents, other members of our family or our co-workers.  There are many books written about how to deal with these difficult relationships.  Some of them encourage us to be braver and stronger.  Some encourage us to do or say things that ease our troubles.  The most important instruction in the Bible comes in the Ten Commandments and speaks directly to our most important relationship: the one we have with our parents.  For some, the idea of honoring parents is a painful principle to grasp.  It’s not that it’s hard to understand, it is that it can be very difficult to work and walk out.

What is the state of your relationship with your parents?  Are you able to honor them?  Is honoring them easy? Or is it hard?

At one time it was very difficult for me to honor my parents.  The problem I had honoring my parents carried into every other aspect of my life.  I could never get far from the anger and bitterness I had toward them.  And because of this, it was easy for me to become angry and bitter with my bosses and co-workers. And with my friends.  And with life in general.

The worst part was, that until I came to decide that I should honor my parents, I couldn’t figure out why the rest of my life was so hard.

Is your life hard?  Do you feel angry and bitter?  Are you resentful of others.

It may be that you should examine this very important relationship.  I’ll be talking more about how you can safely change from within.  And I believe you’ll see outward change in your life as well.
